British4Play.com has restrictions on the size of photographs being uploaded
to the Personal Profile Ads. This is to stop the site getting slowed down by
huge photographs that take time for the web-browser to load to screen.
SIZE
AND FILE RESTRICTIONS:
This site only recognises and accepts photos
on the Personal Profile ads that end with the extension ".jpg"
or ".gif" (If you have .jpeg files, you can just rename
them .jpg).
The maximum size of a picture must be 300 pixels by 300
pixels, or less.
HOW DO I CHECK THE SIZE OF
MY PHOTOS:
You can check if your photo is too big by simply uploading
it to your advert. If it has the correct file extension and still gets rejected,
then it is probably too big.
Alternatively, use whatever program you normally
use to view or edit your pictures and look at the "image size" or "information".
(Generally found under "View" or "Edit").
CHANGING
THE IMAGE SIZE:
There are many different programs you can use to
edit images, so it would be impossible for us to cover them all. These instructions
will be the same for many, but if not, you may need to see the instruction book
that came with the program when you bought it or try open and read it's "Help"
menu. (The drop-down menu to the far right).
Read the text below - if you
still have problems, see the very last paragraph.
Open the image you
wish to resize. Then go to "File" and "Save as... ". Rename
the file (ie. "my-photo.jpg" to "my-photo2.jpg") so you do
not affect the original image. Once you have renamed it, click "OK".
Now look for the "Resize... " option - this will normally be
found under "Edit" or "Image".
Now take a look at the
options available to you. There will be various boxes or circles you can tick,
and measurements in pixels or millimetres, inches etc. Firstly look to see if
you can see the text "width" x "height". Near there you will
need to change the unit of measurement to "Pixels" if it's not already
shown. Now look for the text "Maintain aspect ratio". This needs to
be ticked so that your picture does not distort it's shape. Now go back to "width"
x "height" and if either of them are over 300 pixels, change the largest
number to 300 or less - but try not to go below 200 as your picture will end up
looking quite tiny. (The other number should have changed automatically - if it
did not, then you may not have ticked the "aspect ratio"). Now look
for the "File Size". This should be no larger than 80k (80000 bytes).
If this is true, then save your image and you're all done!
If not, you may
have your dpi set too high. Try changing this to 96 or 72 dpi.
If this is
still not working out for you, then you may need to use some jpg compression software
to help reduce the file size still further.
IF
NOTHING WE JUST SAID WORKED - OR MADE ANY SENSE!
There are times
when you just wish someone else could do it!
If this is one of these times,
and you just can't get your picture to the right size, then we will be happy to
help you - or rather do it for you.
Provided the file size of your image is
less than 300k, you can email it to us along with your name, telephone number,
and the Ad Number from your Personal Profile. We will then size and upload
the image to your profile for you.
If the file size is larger than 300k, or
maybe you do not have a scanned image, you can post us the photograph or file
on a disc (or CD) along with the same details as above and again we will upload
it for you.
LET
US SCAN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS:
We understand that not everybody who
owns a computer has access to a scanner - so you may not have an image on your
computer ready to place with your profile.
If this is true for you, then we
will gladly help you by scanning a photograph for you. Simply post us the photo(s)
you want scanned and we will scan and return them to you. Please enclose a s.a.e.
for the return of your photographs. Your image will be emailed to you and another
will be added to your profile. Please note that there is no charge for
this service if you have already placed a Personal Ad, but we will need all the
personal details and your Ad Number as mentioned in the previous paragraph.
(If you are NOT advertising with us, then we charge £5 per photo.)
